L.I.: I can respond to selections I read by sharing my opinions and using explanations and evidence to support my thoughts.
Over the past few weeks, our class was reading the novel Forbidden City. It is about a boy named Alex who goes to China with his father, who's a news reporter and they got dragged into part of the Tian An Mien Square massacre that happened in 1989 and Alex gets separated from his father. It is an interesting novel and I would definitely recommend it. The mini essay we did was on heroism in Forbidden City. There were many different examples of heroism in Forbidden City but we all had to choose who we thought was the hero. I was one of the only people who chose Lao-Xu as who I thought was a hero only about, three other people chose him as a hero. Even though only a few people thought of Lao-Xu as a hero, it didn't make me stop trying. I tried to find as many examples as I could of Lao-Xu exemplifying heroism in the novel, even though he dies fairly early in the book.
